A drifter buoy is a device that floats on the ocean’s surface, and underneath, it has a canvas tube, called a drogue, that travels with the surface layer of water. It sends back its GPS position, barometric pressure, and sea surface temperature every hour. Once activated, the buoys immediately start transmitting data, and all of this information goes into weather forecasting models to be utilised worldwide.
We deployed the buoy five days after leaving Fremantle in Australia and heading to Newcastle, East Coast of Australia.
The Video was recorded on the 24th of December, 2023
