Skipper Jeronimo

Jeronimo Santos Gonzalez, known to his crew simply as Jeronimo, was not just a skipper on the racing boat Qingdao 2023-24; he was the heartbeat of our sailing team. As the Southern Ocean Race set sail, Jeronimo's determination, unparalleled helming skills, and his Spanish temperament infused with always-positive energy became the stuff of legends like grind grind grind or ease ease ease.

With its stormy seas and unpredictable weather, the Southern Ocean posed a formidable challenge to even the most seasoned sailors. But for Jeronimo, it was a canvas upon which he painted with the strokes of experience and mastery, fueled by his passionate spirit. His connection with the sea ran deep, and his feeling of the waves was nothing short of instinctual.

As Qingdao sliced through the Southern Ocean's waves, Jeronimo's calm demeanour belied the intensity of his focus. His eyes, sharp and unwavering, scanned the horizon as he expertly guided the boat through the tumultuous waters. The crew marvelled at his ability to anticipate the ever-changing conditions, making split-second decisions that kept them not only competitive but often leading the pack.

Jeronimo not only led by example but also with a genuine passion for the sport and the camaraderie it fostered. I learned a lot from Jeronimo, and thanks again for the great time Skipper.
